The Resident Alien cast was given at least one more chance to come together and continue the story of Alan Tudyk’s Harry Vaderspeigle and his friends, but there’s no guarantee that more episodes will be produced beyond the show’s current run. When a prominent season 4 storyline is taken into account, Resident Alien‘s final episode seems to be drawing near.
Harry’s Journey To “Becoming A Human” In Resident Alien Seems To Be Nearing Its End In Season 4
Tudyk’s character is currently more human than he’s ever been
During an interview with Nerds That Geek, Resident Alien showrunner Chris Sheridan discussed season 4 and Harry’s larger journey. He stated that “every season is trying to get Harry closer to humanity and becoming a human.” While season 4 initially implied that Harry was being restricted from transforming back into his alien form, the show has since revealed he is now a full-blooded human.
So, if Sheridan’s ultimate goal had been to make Harry human, I don’t see how the story could really continue beyond its current point. Although the threat of Resident Alien‘s Grey Aliens still hasn’t been neutralized, that is something Harry could do in season 4 in his human form, proving he doesn’t need to be an alien to be heroic.
On the other hand, Harry’s mannerisms are still quite alien, which suggests his transformation into a member of Earth’s native species isn’t complete. Then again, I’ve noticed Tudyk’s ongoing adjustments to how he’s playing Harry in Resident Alien season 4. He’s been gradually becoming a less over-the-top version of the character, so he could end season 4 much closer to Sheridan’s possible stopping point.
Resident Alien Season 4 Could Easily Be The Show’s Final Outing
USA Network may only have stepped in to allow Resident Alien to finish properly
As great as Resident Alien is, the harsh truth of the matter is that it isn’t a particularly high-profile show. Its fan base is very devoted to tuning in, but it hasn’t quite become known to the level of becoming a household name. This is perhaps proven by the fact that Syfy was dragging its feet when ordering season 4, and ultimately said no.
Resident Alien season 4 has a rating of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.
However, in the same interview that teased Resident Alien‘s end, Sheridan also provided a ray of hope. He said he wanted to explore the idea of Harry being without his alien energy “for a little while to fall back on,” which could mean that Tudyk’s character will become alien again and the show can continue.
Why Resident Alien Season 5 Deserves To Happen
Harry Vanderspeigle has a lot more gas left in the narrative tank
Despite being relatively low-profile, I don’t think there are many shows like Resident Alien on at the moment. While it does have some peers, Alan Tudyk’s show has the perfect blend of comedy, sci-fi, and emotional drama. It also has a deceptively vast universe, despite most of the story unfolding on Earth.
Sheridan and company have earned the right to explore the Resident Alien universe as thoroughly as they like before the show ends.
