Resident Alien star Alan Tudyk reveals more details as to why the SyFy comedy series was really cancelled, and what it means for the show’s future. Resident Alien season 4 marked the end of the series. The show offers a very conclusive finale surrounding both Harry’s fate and the town of Patience, Colorado, despite getting cancelled before season 4 premiered.

Responding in Threads to a comment about the show being cancelled, Tudyk revealed that, if Resident Alien ever returned, it would not be under Universal. He hopes that “after an appropriate time” and a reassessment of their “business models” to account for media’s current evolutionary path, the show could eventually come back in some form. Whoa whoa whoa the mic failed to pick up the last part of the sentence. The last season …….in its current incarnation on SYFY and or Discovery but certainly under the UNIVERSAL banner but hopefully one day after an appropriate time for the business to find its feet again after being gutted by changing business models and evolving media options for an aging and simultaneous younger audience.

What Tudyk’s Response Says About Resident Alien’s Cancellation

Resident Alien season 4 ended on a rather conclusive note, with Harry and Bridget leaving Earth to be with Heather and her children with the protagonist. This included a passing of the torch of sorts, with a new alien posing as Dr. Ethan Stone quickly becoming enamored with human life, despite originally trying to destroy the planet.

However, the series’ conclusive note still leaves some threads for Resident Alien characters dangling, such as Mike and Liv’s recruitment by the government. Given Tudyk’s response, it sounds like there are ideas for how the show could continue despite how locked-in the final episode appeared. Unfortunately, this won’t be happening anytime soon, and likely at a new home.

Tudyk’s response reflects how the show had a reduced budget in season 4, alongside multi-airing on USA and SyFy to try and increase viewership numbers. He also posits the idea that business models within entertainment need to evolve before the show can return, particularly when it comes to types of media and how they’re viewed in the modern era.

Based on his response, it seems Tudyk is holding out hope the show could return in some fashion. Luckily, even though Resident Alien might take a long time to come back, the show’s conclusive series finale offered some satisfaction in how the last stretch of the story played out. It might be quite some time before Harry and Patience return, but Tudyk’s statement offers hope the series’ future can be reassessed some time down the line.
