RESIDENT ALIEN Panel Highlights – Dragon Con 2024
RESIDENT ALIEN Panel Highlights – Dragon Con 2024
And so oh [Applause] jeez yeah yo the cast of Resident Alien. That was [Music] good.
I can say from season 3 my character loves love but also thinks it’s the worst thing ever, just like everybody else. I think I’ve been a bit jaded in my process as a character on this show about love, but I think I’ve learned how to start falling in love with myself again. And that has really been quite key for AA.
Darcy knows how to receive love—that’s really all she’s interested in. She doesn’t quite know how to give it, so she’s working on that. Except for anyone with AA, it doesn’t come naturally, but she’s working on it.
I think Kate resented the love that she had in the beginning when you meet her in season 1, because you know, it was love that made her come to Patience and support Ben. And I think she starts resenting the fact that she has spread herself too thin or come to a place where she doesn’t feel like she has any community.
By the end of season 3, it’s like—because she’s learned to love herself and receive love from people in town and make connections—she’s more capable of giving and receiving love. And certainly, she’s got a lot more love to give in season 4. Hopefully, if I get my baby back. Darcy, I can’t—it’s a cutie, he’s a little baby. I like it.
[Music] Thank you for this, because I have been talking about this since season one, and Chris Sheridan has shut me and us down a few times because he’s worried that people will not respect a musical episode. And I’m hearing that you will. Thank you very much.
This is going all the way to the top. I thought it would be so cool if Harry was like falling asleep as a musical was happening on the TV, and then we go into his dream state, and then I’m there singing to him. And so all of us—I’ve already thought about it, I’ve already written it, and I’m going to just propose it for season 4.
So I’m going to video this for Chris Sheridan, head writer and showrunner. I’m gonna ask. Thank you.
So we’re going to ask a question, and you guys are going to respond in real time. How would you guys feel about a Resident Alien musical episode? You and you get a car, you get a car, and you get a car, and you get a [Applause] car.
“Come on, Resident Alien—and I wouldn’t care for it, so don’t please don’t do it.” [Music]
Audition Story
What’s my most memorable audition, good or bad? Oh, Juilliard. I had a pretty good audition for that.
At my callback they asked me to—there’s an improv section. I had been in an improv troupe before that in Dallas, so I was excited. Michael Kahn was in charge and he was like, “Okay, you are preparing a musical audition. It requires dance and song, you have an audition coming up, you have to leave very soon.”
I said great, I got it, okay let me go. He’s like, “I’m not done.”
“Oh, okay, what else?”
He goes, “Then you get a call with some shocking news.”
“Okay,” I said. “Go.”
I did a song from Godspell which I don’t know really that well, so I made the audition like I was bad, I was not going to get the part.
…Five, six, seven, eight… [singing] “If you feel sad or under a curse, your life is bad…” Ring!
I pretended not to answer the phone, and the teachers started laughing. Finally I answered: “Yes, hello, I only have a minute—what are you saying? Oh… oh… I’m so sorry, I was just getting ready to audition but now I don’t have to, because I’m going to school! Yes, yes, yes!”
I think that’s what got me in right there.
Convention & Cosplay
What I’m going to do next year—when I’m coming next year, because obviously we’re going to be back—you woke Waldo. I’m going to wear a booth. My cosplay is going to be Alice Werland in the booth, and I’m going to have a miniature booth that travels around with me, with little tiny headshots that I’ll sign in the booth.
Because I really want to see the rest of the con, but we can’t leave our booth too long. So I want to just have a booth that comes with me.
I’d like to do a zombie, but one of those Last of Us zombies, with a lot of mushroom action on my face, neck, and head. Serious skin tags—too much texture. Dermatology needs to intervene.
Cynthia, our costume designer from season one of Resident Alien, did The Last of Us! She was our first, now she’s their last.
Interesting gift—a coffee cup. You can put anything in there: jewelry, sandwich crusts, doesn’t have to be valuables.
I love dressing up as men, so maybe Cooper from Twin Peaks, or Alan—just regular Alan as Harry. Or Chewbacca—though that’d be hot. Maybe Chewbacca holding the head.
Or maybe someone from the ACOTAR (Sarah J. Maas) universe, like Nesta. She’s my favorite—complex, angry, full of rage, but layered. Maybe Sarah herself, dressing up as Alan. Or Steve dressing as Steve. And we’ll all be in your booth together, going [Music] around.
Guest Stars
My good friend Paul F. Tompkins is a fantastic actor, and we’ve been trying to get him on the show for a while. That’s who I’d want.
Now that we’ve met Jonathan, how cool would it be if he was somebody’s dad? We haven’t met my dad yet—he could be my dad! What if he abandoned me, and it’s really hard to talk to him? I’m emailing Chris right after this.
As a child I saw Three Men and a Little Lady (sequel to Three Men and a Baby). I loved the sequel more than the original. That’s Tom Selleck, Ted Danson, and Steve Guttenberg.
Steve Guttenberg has actually made his way into the series via Ben reading his autobiography in bed. I’d love Ted Danson to play my dad—nostalgia!
Or Sir Anthony Hopkins, please, as another alien—as my father.
Closing
Great question—it should have been: which celebrity do you want in a Dad episode? Lots of dad energy. Maybe a Father’s Day episode.
