S4 Resident Alien Plot

This is my baby. He just got five new teeth today. He wants to show them to me.

With Season 4 of Alan Tudyk’s Resident Alien green-lit, Screen Rant is taking a look at what fans are hoping to see. With so little known about the plot for the new season, we’re exploring eight of the best fan theories about where this delightfully unpredictable show could go next.

“Cannot give up on your mission. You need to help us. Our people depend on—”
“Oh my God, are you high?”

Season 3 wrapped up with big twists, unanswered questions, and emotional stakes higher than ever, leaving us to wonder what’s next for Harry Vanderspeigle, Asta Twelvetrees, and the quirky town of Patience, Colorado.

With its blend of heartfelt storytelling and extraterrestrial hijinks, Resident Alien has become a modern comedy classic.
“My people do not have scales. That’s racist.”

Seeing Harry and Bridget imprisoned on the Gray moonship and the Man in Black taking over his life back on Earth, there is a lot for showrunners to cover in the new season. With the season shifting networks from SyFy to USA and a potentially bigger budget, it’s no surprise that fans have developed some fascinating theories about what Season 4 might hold.

So with that in mind, let’s get into the fans’ biggest theories.

The Time Jump Theory
One of the biggest theories floating around is that Season 4 will feature a significant time jump. With Earth on the brink of an alien invasion, fans believe the show could leap forward to reveal a world already in the midst of disaster.

This would set the stage for a more action-packed season where the stakes for humanity—and Harry—are higher than ever. A time jump could also provide the opportunity to introduce new dynamics between the characters. For instance, Asta might emerge as the leader of a resistance movement, while Harry—struggling with his alien identity—could grapple with his evolving sense of responsibility toward Earth.

Some fans even speculate that the invasion will force Harry to embrace his alien side more fully. But for the good of the human race, he could use advanced technology to fight off the Grays. This shift could add a darker, more urgent tone to the show, especially if we see beloved locations in Patience devastated by the invasion.

What would be most compelling, though, is how the time jump might show characters like Darcy, Sheriff Mike, and Deputy Liv adapting to a world transformed by extraterrestrial conflict. The time jump theory offers endless storytelling potential and could give the show a fresh energy heading into its fourth season.

Harry and Bridget Escape
Resident Alien Season 3’s finale ended with Harry Vanderspeigle trapped aboard the Grays’ Star Wars–inspired moonship along with his son Bridget, while the Man in Black stole his identity and landed back in Patience.

Considering Harry is the main character of the show, it’s unlikely he’ll be stuck for long. Fans feel it’s likely we’ll see Harry and Bridget escape early on in Season 4, with the chance for an epic showdown once they get back to Earth and face the Man in Black.

Asta’s Journey
Asta Twelvetrees has always been the emotional core of Resident Alien, and fans expect her story to evolve significantly in Season 4.

After reconnecting with her estranged daughter Jay and grappling with her role as Harry’s confidant, Asta faces tough decisions about her own future. Many fans believe she will begin to focus more on her own needs, potentially leaving Patience to pursue a new career or passion that aligns with her nurturing and intelligent nature.

However, her deep bond with Harry makes it equally likely she’ll stay and support him through the challenges ahead. Season 4 might also explore Asta’s growing sense of agency as she continues to navigate her complicated relationships with the people of Patience.

Her dynamic with Jay in particular has room to grow, as Asta works to balance her newfound role as a mother with the lingering guilt over her past decisions. At its heart, Asta’s journey is one of self-discovery, and fans are eager to see how her evolving identity shapes her relationships with both Harry and the rest of the town.

Sheriff Mike’s Fate
This theory is a tough pill for fans to swallow, but many believe Sheriff Mike might not make it through Season 4.

As one of the most beloved characters on the show, Mike’s mix of tough-guy bravado and hidden vulnerability has made him a standout. But in a series that doesn’t shy away from big emotional moments, his potential demise would raise the stakes considerably.

Season 3 saw Mike getting closer to uncovering the truth about the alien presence in Patience, which could put him directly in the Grays’ crosshairs. If Mike were to meet a tragic end, it would undoubtedly leave a massive hole in the series—but it would also provide an opportunity for Deputy Liv to step into a bigger role.

Fans also speculate that Mike’s death could serve as a rallying cry for the people of Patience, uniting them against the alien threat. While we’re all hoping this theory stays just that—a theory—there’s no denying it would add a powerful layer of drama to the show’s narrative.

New Alien Species
Now that we have Harry up in space, it gives an easier opportunity to introduce more alien species into the mix.

We have the Grays, the Man in Black, and of course Harry’s currently unnamed race. It makes sense that there is more life out there that can descend on Patience—especially if it’s used to assist Harry and Bridget’s escape from the moon base.

Fans also hope there will finally be more explanation or information about Harry’s relatives. We know the location of his homeworld is somewhere in the constellation Ursa Major, and that it is a magnificent but freezing and brutal place. However, other than Goliath (an alternate Harry) and now Bridget, there has been a distinct lack of others from his home.

Although Goliath has stated it is because another species intends to invade Earth—the Grays—now that the causality paradox has commenced, fans feel there’s a chance for Harry’s species to step in.

The Grays’ Plan
The Grays have always been a looming threat in Resident Alien, and Season 3 gave us the full truth of their villainous plans.

In Season 3, Episode 5, the plot reveals that the Grays are working to terraform Earth, hoping to use their compound to alter the planet’s environment. This would mean they could survive on Earth with ease before finally perfecting the human-Gray hybrids.

Others suggest the Grays might have a more targeted agenda—such as harnessing the unique abilities of Harry and others like him. This could explain why Harry was sent to Earth in the first place, and why the Grays seem so determined to eliminate any resistance.

If the Grays’ plan does move forward into widespread destruction, it would force Harry to confront his conflicted feelings about humanity. He would have to decide where his true loyalties lie.

As the series builds toward its climax, the Grays’ motives and tactics are sure to play a pivotal role in shaping the story.

The Truth Comes Out
Though the number of main characters unaware of Harry’s identity is small now, there are still some in Patience yet to learn the truth.

With the Man in Black literally stepping into his shoes, it is inevitable that the truth will finally come out for everyone. This links back to the fan theory that Harry and Bridget will escape their moon prison and find their way back to Earth in a potential showdown in the Colorado town.

If this happens, it will force Harry to come clean about who he is and why he’s there. This could cause a huge problem if Mike finds out and learns that the real Harry Vanderspeigle has been taken out of the gene pool by Alan Tudyk’s alien.

Harry’s Evolution
Harry’s transformation has been a central theme throughout the series, and fans believe Season 4 will take it to the next level.

As his bond with Asta and the people of Patience deepens, Harry might make the ultimate choice: to abandon his alien form and embrace humanity fully. This decision would represent the culmination of Harry’s emotional journey, as he learns to value the messy, unpredictable beauty of human life.

Alternatively, some fans theorize that Harry will instead gain new alien abilities, using them to confront the Grays on equal footing. Either way, Harry’s evolution—both literal and emotional—will be crucial to the show’s resolution.

Can he truly become one of us? Or will his alien nature always keep him apart? That’s the question Season 4 is poised to answer.

And that’s eight theories we have for Resident Alien Season 4. Which theory do you think is most likely to happen? Or do you have your own?
