Get the Lead Out on Lot 5 (Season 12) *Exclusive* | The Curse of Oak Island

Whenever we find a piece of lead there are very specific tests we can run that reveal not only where it might’ve come from, but also when it was made. Not a bobby-dazzler, but a very valuable find indeed.

This one looks like easy digging anyway.

GARY: What I like about this area, as well, is it’s unexplored for us.
And it’s the other side of the swamp.
And we know how much stuff we’ve found on that side of the swamp.

It looks like a piece of lead, mate.
Looks like a little lead surfboard.
That’s lead though.
You can feel how heavy it is?

An odd-looking piece, isn’t it?

Looks like it’s got two square nails in it.

I think this is a hole.
-Yeah. -MARTY: It sure as hell is.
GARY: Yeah, ’cause it’s square, ’cause that would mean it’s older.
Yeah, they’re square holes, mate, that’s old.
Any time you find an old piece of lead or any metal and it’s got square holes in it, that means it was punched through with a square shank nail.
-1700s or older. -For what?
-What the heck’s that for? -Yeah, why the heck would you have something like this?
I love that, as well.
It looks like it’s got some kind of design on it.
It definitely looks intentional.
Someone has made that specially like that.
Can we get that cleaned up and see what it says?
-Yeah, that’s the thing. -It’s a cool find.
But it’s cool because we know all the lead we find on Oak Island, -get it laser ablation? -Yeah.
-It can tell a tale, yeah. -Yeah.
And then we could match it to other pieces of lead we’ve found around the island.
MARTY: It’s an odd piece. I have no idea what it is. It might mean something. It’s not something we’ve run into anywhere else on the island. So that’s perplexing.
And it just takes an odd piece and makes it even odder.
