Gold Rush: Kevin Beets Makes $82,500 from His FIRST Solo Gold Weigh
Gold Rush: Kevin Beets Makes $82,500 from His FIRST Solo Gold Weigh
At Scriber Creek,
Kevin Beat’s pre-wash is blocked by a rock,
shutting down his plant.
I got to politely encourage this rock out of my way.
Aka, I’m going to beat the out of it with a sledgehammer till it moves.
Watch your eyes.
Oops.
Oh.
Is there any way
that we could push it back through
and angle it a different way
to get through that?
Possibly.
May want to send John up here
to try to give it a lift
cuz he’s a little heavy.
What can I do for you, brother?
Oh, we need someone with better leverage
than what we got.
All right.
I think we can lift the bottom of this rock.
You can pull it back now.
Yeah, pull it back here.
Holy.
Okay.
Is it going to go?
I can just throw it off the edge, brother.
You think you can do it?
Absolutely.
Holy.
If you’re thinking you’re that froggy.
Okay.
He’s going to try and get it.
Everyone on this side.
See if we can play. [snorts]
Perfect.
Okay.
You got that?
Yeah.
Think light as a feather.
Ready?
Yep.
Beautiful.
Yeah. Muscles.
Yeah, buddy.
You saved the day.
You’re going to make me blush. [laughter]
Yeah, man.
The 300-lb rock
hulked out of the pre-wash.
There we go.
Kevin and his crew
can get back on the gold.
Well, I didn’t know he was that big
when we hired him.
Good thing
because that rock looked a little heavy for me.
Now it’s time to get back into the equipment,
cuz it is a long way
to 100 ounces for the week.
So — back to it.
Kevin Beat’s crew are playing catch-up,
chasing a thousand.
It’s so nice to finally get going.
We started with nothing,
and to see an actual plant setup…
it’s finally coming along.
I got a new hire.
His name’s Kaden.
He makes me feel really old
cuz he looks like he should still be in high school.
I’ve been gold mining for about 5 years.
When I was a teenager,
my family had a gold mine,
and ever since that,
I’ve just sort of felt like it was a bit of a calling.
Twenty-two-year-old new recruit Caden
has been clearing tailings
since he started two days ago.
[music]
Oh, that doesn’t look good.
I’m shutting her down. Shutting her down.
Hey, Kev.
Hey, Kev.
You need to get down here.
I’ll be down in a second to have a look.
Kevin needs 2 ounces of gold an hour
to have any chance of hitting his season target.
One there, there, there, there, there,
there, there.
Oh, yeah. Broken off.
I was up in the yard doing some work.
Kaden gave us a call.
He saw water spraying everywhere.
Came up and checked
and found one of these busted.
Another one.
This whole bar is dead at this point.
The broken spray bars
won’t wash pay dirt properly,
losing gold in the tailings.
I figure this happens from rocks.
They come down off conveyor.
You can see exactly where they hit that center plate
right there.
Bounce.
Bounce.
And if they hit the deck
when it’s on an upward swing,
they fly up,
they go whack,
and these guys — done.
So to make sure we get a decent spread on our spray,
we’re just going to quickly replace these ones.
We’ll probably go a little shorter
cuz clearly these —
they’re in the danger zone.
They’re too long.
[music]
I see. I see.
I’m going to make more of these from these.
They’re going to be a lot shorter
cuz they don’t really need to be this long.
I’m just hoping it doesn’t take too long,
and we can get the show back on the road,
because I just want to be slowing right now.
That’s all done.
I have to pop out the old ones
and pop in the new ones.
Okay — now we have the ones I made up,
much shorter,
so they shouldn’t be able to be hit by rocks.
And if they are,
they should be much harder to break.
Bada bing.
Quick fix.
[music]
Spray bar should be good.
And we’re going to fire back up.
Off you go.
Nozzles are in.
They’re moving the material in,
which is perfect.
That means we can get back to slooing.
Still a long leg to 1,000 ounces.
Kevin is back on track
for his first gold weigh of the season.
Hey guys.
Hey guys.
Thanks.
Three and a half months into the season,
and Kevin Beats is finally weighing his first gold.
It’s a big thing
to do a thousand your first year.
I know the growing pains.
So I want to see these two succeed as well, right?
Yeah, it is nice
to finally see things rolling
because bills must come in, too.
Oh, trust me. I know.
I think we put two mil in so far.
Was getting scary at one point as well.
I was just watching the bills come in,
and I was like,
“Okay…
where do I get the money now?” [laughter]
So — let’s see.
You have some gold.
We do.
Are we ready, folks?
Yeah.
To achieve his 1,000-ounce goal,
Kevin must average roughly 100 ounces a week.
One, two, three, five, 10, 15, 20, 25,
30… and 33 oz.
Nice.
Right on the dot.
Worth $82,500.
Oh, that’s just a drop in the bucket.
We do get the royalties, right?
Well, hopefully you get more than this
before we get to that part in the fall.
But you have to crank things up, I guess.
Yeah.
Well, get running.
Keep running.
That’s the biggest thing.
Yeah.
Next time — hope it’ll be a little bit more gold.
Yeah, we do.
I hope so, too.
As well.
Keep that thing running.
Good to see you guys.
Bye.
I’ll be back.
We could have done better.
I always want more.
It doesn’t seem like we have much time left.
Do you think we’re going to hit our thousand ounce?
Honestly…
I don’t know yet.
