Ralph Breaks The Internet’s Alan Tudyk Might Scare Kids With This Voiceover
off-putting, scary for children, might see this—
that’s a great voice.
thank you very much.
so they told—the director said—
they said, a cross between Droopy and Truman Capote.
and then you ran with that?
yes, it’s a great choice.
yes, the love child of those two characters.
in nothing but love.
I was raised sort of—
love it, it is—
because Droopy becomes sort of, oh, he becomes a little bit more in there,
and Truman Capote, you—
it’s a little bit more feathery then, isn’t it?
interesting.
he lives right between those two.
so, you had to watch—do some research in that area?
alright.
luckily, it’s very simple to look at.
yeah, I just watched some Truman Capote interviews.
mm-hmm.
so they told you this ahead of time?
before you got into the booth?
they told me that before I got there,
and then once I saw his picture, it sort of came together pretty fast.
and once we found—
sometimes you just find a thing that they say—
and his was that.
interesting.
was that solidified?
okay, there’s no likeness between the looks.
but did they capture any of your movement?
did they include that—videotape this stuff?
yeah, they did.
there’s a—when I was—I was rubbing my face, you know?
you know, my search engine is a bit aggressive today.
and even comment, I said, oh, I like your hand.
do keep doing your hand on your face.
and then it became—
once I saw the animation—
so you do the special effects sound?
and I—special effects?
I probably—you—when you’re searching—
was that you, or did they come up with that sound in post?
oh no, that’s me.
that’s you?
yeah, that’s fun.
no, well, I just gotta shake your body around there, make it sound.
let me try—oh, I’ll do it all day long.
but I don’t know, we got it pretty much in one.
off-putting, scary for children—
I don’t—children might see this—
a little scared—yeah.
just shake your body like the animation
and start making—
it’s just a little bit of “hey, hey” in there.
it’s obvious that making the gestures helps with the voice, right?
I mean, you kind of have to.
yeah.
the more you could—
the more I find that you put yourself in the location,
wanting and thinking the things that the character wants or thinks—
the better it becomes.
like, the more you act it, the better it is.
yeah.
and then the writing is so funny.
the fact that how he searches and—yeah—
options that you get.
yes, yeah.
they pretty much nailed it.
right.
yeah, definitely.
yeah, their writing at Disney is the best.
yeah.
so how are you as far as the Googling and internet searches?
I’m not good.
I can’t—I’m not good at it.
my wife is.
my wife is good at that thing.
like, whenever she gets on my computer,
she punches a bunch of buttons and I see screens and things—
like, how are you separating everything?
I’m one of those people—
my desktop is just too cluttered.
a lot of things on it.
so I think you need a Mr. KnowsMore, right?
I need Mr. KnowsMore.
everyone needs one.
yeah.
he seems—he’s very, you know—
he’s—you know, we have Google,
and to a lesser extent, Bing,
and then whatever other ones are out there, I don’t know.
but he seems like a very generous—yeah.
you know, he’s not out there collecting—
he’s not selling your data.
you don’t get a sensitive KnowsMore on the side,
making a deal, you know, with advertisers.
he’s doing—he’s just doing a service for you.
or listening in.
well, he does know a little bit about you, like—
“Oh, I hope she sticks through this longer.”
you know, he knows her search history.
oh, let’s see how that goes.
and how do you go back and forth with the directors?
the other actors are not in the booth with you, right?
not in this one.
sometimes they are, sometimes they aren’t.
you just sort of—
I think, like, John came as I was leaving,
so we got to hang out for a little.
but that’s different.
yeah, it’s different.
I can watch those more all day long.
he was so much fun.
ah, he deserves his own movie.
not today.
it’s been enough.
I think so.
all the things he could tell,
In Search of KnowsMore—
because he’s a search engine—
if he goes on some kind of his own search
for who he is, maybe.
or he goes crazy and starts selling all people’s—
and it’s an education for people about—
be careful online,
don’t give too much of your information away.
a PSA.
Disney PSA.
alright, great.
thank you so much.
