Titan Explorer Deckhand Goes MISSING During Raging Storm! | Deadliest Catch

250 miles northwest of Dutch Harbor. >> Oh yeah. Oh yeah. >> How you roll, baby? >> You better do a check here. [Music] >> Irish baby. Irish baby. [Applause] Look at the Irish >> on a time bandit. >> This might be the hot one. Hot swap. We just did the Irish jig. So, here we go. Weather’s coming up fast. It’s going to be uh really evil. You know, this storm goes from here 1,600 miles down. You do the math, Mike.

Two weeks into the winter season.

Barreling south out of Norton Sound, Alaska, on a collision course with the Golden King and Barai grounds. A 600-m wide cyclonic low pressure system threatens John, his approaching offload, and the entire fleet with 45 mph winds and 25 ft waves. Strap in, old buddy. >> Hopefully it blows through quick. It’s all we can do. It’s time to pop up. >> There you go. Start doing some dancing, baby. >> Come on, big boy. Come on, baby. What the hell? Pull back. Pull back.

Not good. >> Three crappers. >> Knew all these crowd this this time of year are walking to the west. I separate from the females and I go hunting. The little ones try to follow the big ones, but the big ones are too fast. >> Okay, let’s see if these pots get any better. >> Roger. Hands down. >> Give us some love. Give us some love. That’s one. >> One golden king crab. >> Got one. >> Well, that ain’t good. >> Better stack that one.

Fishing hasn’t been good, but at least we haven’t had any mechanical breakdowns. Don’t >> say that, Beaver. I >> always knock on wood when they say it up here. I’m knocking on wood for them. Okay. Well, I better stack that one, too. I don’t know what where I’m going to go next, but I need to go to a really good spot. That’s for damn sure. [Music] >> Watch out. We got >> still better spot. >> Stay on the bow. Just sit high in the bow. Do not go on deck. Stay in your seat. Stay away from the windows.

Got a loose pot on deck. >> Oh, hit the hydraulics. Hydraulics. >> I got it. Watch out. Watch out. I got it. I got it. I got it. I got it. >> What just happened? >> Our generator just shut down. Neil said the brake go off or something. >> God, that was scary. >> Yeah, that was a that that shook me out pretty good. Got my checker going. I saw that pock coming right towards the wheelhouse window and then it went black. I was just worried about the guys is all I was worried about. That was like a wrecking ball. the death trap.

Anybody says we’re going to break down again, I’m going to kick your >> Do not say that word. B R E A K down. Do not say that on the boat. Don’t say F I R E. Say hurricane. >> Say nice boat and rub it. Pat it. Rub the boat. Nice boat. Nice boat. Nice boat. You think you seen everything? You haven’t seen everything, have you? Oh,ay. All right. Break respects. So, we’re going to finish hauling these and find a new home. Hopefully, we we find some crabs.

214 mi northwest on the Time Bandit. Our big prospect strength didn’t pay off. So, we got to get these pots on some crabs. Roger. Roger. Roger. >> So far, I’m doing pretty good. Keeping the waves off them. >> Yeah, baby. >> Beautiful. 205. I’m going to run this a little deeper. Run this out a little deeper. Going over. This is definitely where where two tide, two currents are going together around this island.

Racing to set and haul all 40 pots before the 600m wide low pressure system overruns his location. Captain Jonathan targets a depression on the south side of St. George, where he suspects feed has settled and the biomass is feasting. Last spot. >> Let’s go deep. >> So be it. Let’s >> go deep, baby. >> Time for us to turn into Aquaman. >> Hang on, boys. >> Hurry up. Coming over. [Music] I seen them all hanging on. Here’s another one.

That’s a big one. Nothing. Got nothing. >> Got no steering. >> Hey guys, I got no steering. >> No deal. We lost our steering. [Music] >> Neil, >> make sure he takes it off. Puts it on man. >> We’re helpless. Help us in the tides and the winds and the seas and everything else. >> Got one steering hose blown. Russell said put it on manual.

I have no manual. I got no steering till I fix. You guys got to pick something that >> on the Titan Explorer.

Okay, now where the is everybody? You okay? You okay, buddy? You just got hammered, dude. I don’t know how hard. I’ll find out here in a minute. But I I have to get this pot on. Try to pull the line on the line on the block. [Music] Be quick. You got hit hard. Wasn’t fast enough.

Got to make it through this trip. And I need him >> right here. in my leg. >> We continue on to the next string, but I got to stack all the pots on in this storm. Not very safe, >> 120 mi northeast.

You guys ready in the heart of the storm? >> We’re going to try it. We’ll just do it one at a time. Make my turns. Londo, be careful. Don’t trust me. So, I just try to get these on and get the hell out of here.

Aboard the Titan Explorer. >> Big waves out there. Not conducive for a safe work environment. I already hit Rolando with the wave, but we’re going to need everybody.

After striking out in the west and responsible for striking Deckan Rolando Miramontes with a 25- ft wave, Captain Jake turns to his eastern gear, betting the fresh ground is worth the pounding. [Music]

All right, guys. Here’s the first part. All right, let’s roll >> weather. I swear to God if these pots don’t come up, I’m going to lose it.

I’m deep in the red. Something’s got to change eventually. Even if that is my position in this chair. [Music]

Here we go. Yeah, [Applause] >> not bad. >> Lock it. Nice big crab.

  1. They’re big boys. >> Big crab. Clean crab. It’s very easy for salty. Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Oh, yeah. It’s a good one. [Music] >> That’s a file.

Load it up, dude. >> Yeah. Yeah, baby. Stop. Stop. Stop. [Applause]

And take care of that. Popped out of the block. Got Rolando in the face. I don’t know. It’ll teeth out. You’re going to have to stack that pot. I’m just going to jog easy right now. Fix the block. Add a shim. Whatever you got to do. Sand it. >> Yeah. Roger.

Chino Shai and Felipe. Just worry about the block and the pot. Kevin, >> worry about the Don’t worry about anything else but taking care of him. Kevin’s a veterinarian, so Kevin, I trust, can take care of him.

I don’t know if it broke his tooth. I don’t know if it cut skin. I don’t know if it broke his nose, but I’ve got a line in the block. And I’ve got 16T C’s right here. I got to keep going. I I can’t stop.

Kev, h how is it? >> Can you bring him up here? Cuz I can’t cuz I can’t leave >> from 1 to 10. How’s the pain? >> Seven. >> Seven.

Cuz your teeth. Anything wrong with your teeth? >> You don’t want to have a screwed up tooth cuz then we’d have to fix that. I’m not going to let you leave here. Broken tooth. >> No, I think it’s not broken. No, it’s only the the you know the heat.

So, >> I don’t want to take you out of rotation if I don’t have to. But if your pain’s at a seven, >> no, >> I think it’s going to be okay. >> Okay. >> Yeah, you guys do. Okay. >> Yeah. If you want to lay down. >> No, 10 minutes. >> Okay.

All right, then. Well, go take your break. And I’m glad I’m glad you’re okay. [Music]

Right now, you know, Rolando’s going to rest. As soon as we get this block situation figured out, get them back to work. Sometimes life just seems impossible. Feels impossible. Is impossible. I’m not going to give up.

Okay, you’ll go ahead drive. [Music]

Looks like a brand new black hook. It’s working. Not bumping anymore. It’s working. >> All right, get ready to haul.

These guys are professionals. [Music] We’ve been through hell and back together already. Hopefully, we can find consistent numbers. We’ll just grind it out.

Yeah, it is a little sketchy for me, but with with the environment like this, the parts are all slippery and iced up on.

We got a set. Come on over. >> Jeez. Oh jeez. Oh jeez. >> Coming in with some heat. [Music] >> Watch. Watch. Watch. Watch out. God, that’s not a very good stack. [Music]

Where is he? >> Where’s Chino? >> Is Chino there? >> I’m back here. [Music]

Gino run. [Music]

I just took a wave and and the boat rolled and I just thought Chino fell over. I I can’t see and all I can see is the faces on the team and they’re looking and they’re scared and they’re looking over the side and I don’t know what the is going on but we can’t stop cuz I need to get these pots on crab fast and I want to be done with tonight.

84 miles northwest.

Try to get all the eyes, you know, clear >> on the Titan Explorer. >> 23T seas. Got a lot of ice buildup. Now we’re about to put Oh, I think it’s 80 plots on. I have so much crab to catch and I don’t have an option to quit. I jam-packed the area above the snowman.

Is it a smart move? I don’t know, but we’re going to find out. All right, let’s give it a shot. Here it is. Watch the rail. >> Be really careful. Okay, let’s go. >> Now I got to keep these waves from slamming me into the rail. I just really am praying to the Lord that he will have some mercy on me.

Come on. Come on. Come on. [Music] >> Yeah. [Music]

Oh my god. It’s loaded. 1 7 >> 1 7 0 >> I might be able to pull this thing off. Get the hell out of here.

Oh my god. Hang on. Hang on. Look at that. [Laughter] Chino, you okay? [Laughter]

Chino just got laid out. It’s just really icy down there. And at the same time, we took a huge wave.

It’s not turning. I can’t turn. I can’t turn. I can’t turn. I got nothing. Oh, get away from the rail. Get away from the rail, everybody.

Run for cover. Run. >> It’s stuck in port. I can’t turn. >> Hey, >> Felipe, check the runner.

We’re doing a circle. What’s What’s going on in the engine room? >> Stuck. >> The rudder post. >> Yeah. >> The wave that we took knocked a bunch of stuff onto the rudder post and now something’s lodged in between the piston. [Applause]

Is it okay? [Music] >> So hard. >> I took the but I got a It’s working good. [Music] Starboard. >> Turn to starboard. >> Starboard to starboard now. [Music] working good.

I got rudder indicator. It says it’s working here. >> Got it. Cuz I’ve got steering now. Thank god. What was it?

So, we take the weight, right, and everything fall down. And those piece of wood stack between the ramp and the rotor. You >> just pinned to the port. >> Yeah, that was piece of wood.

All right. Well, let’s get back at it. >> Okay. >> Thanks, Felipe. >> Yeah, no problem.

We’re going to go back and try to haul this. We had a rough start. Bye. Big luck is on our side.

Oh, storm after storm. For now, I got to keep going. I’ve got my delivery date. I’ve got about 30 hours to get in and there’s nothing stopping me. It’s easy to haul an anchor in perfect conditions in flat, calm weather. It’s a whole different deal when you’re hauling an anchor in 50 mph winds.

Turn the starboard side. Turn the starboard side. >> Hey, I’m too fast now. Hey, coming out too fast now. I think we lost the anchor. Hey, >> I’m going to go stand by on that over there on there.

He says the anchor’s gone. Let’s go. Grab this thing. Grab this bag. >> I think I’m drifting over. >> The only reason we have this anchor right now is because we had a buoy on it. Otherwise, that anchor would be Davy Jones locker. It would be deep sed. Start taking it up. So, start taking it up. Use the half crate. Try and pull this thing out of the water. Okay. 000 and you go up there and direct traffic to it. Okay. All right.

Weighed down with 18,000 lbs of crab and maneuvering a mere 100 yards from shore, Captain Keith reels in the 4tonon iron anchor below, praying that the line and his crew can withstand the strain. Make sure everybody’s feet are clear. And remember guys, it’s a lot of weight we’re going with here. And make sure we don’t come up tight with the chain.

Okay, that’s enough. >> Okay, anchor’s coming up now. Stand by. >> All right, run on. Yeah, I hope that holds, man.

I’ve got the anchor at the rail, but it’s not on the boat yet. You need it on the boat. All right, so if you think you can get it on, bring it on. Okay, >> bigger. >> We got her. >> Heads up.

All right. Yeah. Get it secured for us. All right. >> Yeah. Hey, this is the wizard. Wizard, you on this one? Yeah, I got you.

You know what? We just about lost the anchor, >> but it looks like we’re back online. >> Okay, I got another boat that slipped in ahead. >> Give it about 6 to 8 hours and I’ll get you back in here. [Music]

just outside Dutch Harbor. >> Good evening. Um, calling to check in. >> Yeah, they’re getting their fish ticket now. Uh, stand by. I’ll call you in a second. >> Uh, yeah.

On the Wizard, >> we’ve been out here too long. We had to anchor them for two days. Just about lost our anchor. Keep the crab on board for too long and we were going to start incurring dead loss, you know. Okay, wizard, come on up to the red buoy and we’ll get you in next.

Roger. Roger. >> I’m assuming that red flashing light is the red can, right? >> All righty. Here we go, guys. >> Real fast. As quick as possible. >> Get our crab off. Provision fuel back out before that next blow hits. What’s going on up there, Keith? You in the wheelhouse? Are you offloading?

Yeah. Um, no. We’re just heading to town. What are you doing? >> Same. Same. Uh, we’re trying to get him for offload.

Tell them you’re first. >> Yeah. Well, you know what? First one that can gets the offload. You know that, right? >> Yeah. All right, first one of the can. Gotcha.

Damn it. Please don’t do anything stupid. >> Ah, sure. Ain’t going to happen.

Well, that’s a big boat we’re talking about. And if he’s got a big load of crab, that could cost us like a day. >> Yeah, there’s a lot.

Not getting there first. Hansen. I’ll tell you that right now, man. And I need to get back out there.

We got to go. Let’s do this. >> Damn it. We don’t need this right now, Mouse. We’re racing now. Okay. All right, guys. Start dropping as much ice as you can get right now. Okay. Drop. We’re trying to lighten our load. Hit the stansion. Knock that down. Throw in the side. Everything we got.

Okay. Roger. You’re done. Come on, baby. That looks like about 150 yards off the stern, so we’re gaining. Are they dropping ice, Carl? >> Yeah, they’re throwing big chunks off the side.

Look at that. >> You got to lighten the load on that hog. Oh my god.

Come on, baby. Let’s go. Oh no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Hansen’s right on our tail here.

I don’t need to be held up with Doc. Evil Sig Hansen sitting there delivering in front of me. >> Can is 100 ft. Oh, we got him.

No, no, no, no, no, no, no. >> Got him. >> Yep. >> No. [Music] I’m a thoroughb bread baby. Damn it.

Hey, Northwestern, we got you at the red can. Come on, the dock. We’re ready to take your crowd. >> Oh, we’ll be there. We got you. Yeah. I wish I could see his face right now.

Damn it. Man, I feel bad. I really do. >> You feel bad, my ass. I can just see that smile on your face right now.

Oh, I think I’ve kn I think you know me for too long.

All right, see get in there and get that crab off the boat as fast as you can. All right, >> Roger. No, I think we’re all gunning for the same thing. Okay, buddy. We We’re going to get him off quick. Thank you.

Sig Hansen, it’s amazing the murder he gets away with. >> Well, that’s going to really help us. That’s probably going to buy us eight hours.

Got these crab offloaded, especially to beat this serious weather coming in. We uh we may not hit that window. We may be stuck in town for a couple more days. Just want to get in and get out and get my crab and get home.
